Review: Sex, Jesus, and the Conversations the Church Forgot by Mo Isom

Review: Sex, Jesus, and the Conversations the Church Forgot Mo Isom Baker Books 2018 I picked this one up after I’d seen a video promo by the author, http://moisom.com/sexandjesus#.   Sounded like she had something to say.   She does.   And even if you don’t think it applies to you it does in ways that aren’t necessarily related to sex, but just as a human being with desires.    Isom subscribed to many of the conversations that govern relationships in general, and those with men, for her generation, the millennials.   This book is not her life story, but it does describe some moments that were important to her journey then and now.   Her openness to share those times surprised me.   Her point without spoiling the book is that she had not understood what linked sexual intimacy to ordinary life, the why’s, if you will.   Was it not taught, discussed?   Or was she not interested in hearing might be a valid...

Review: The Trust Protocol: The Key to Building Stronger Families, Teams, and Businesses by Mac Richard

Review: The Trust Protocol: The Key to Building Stronger Families, Teams, and Businesses Mac Richard Baker Books 2017 Mac Richard is a new author for me and looking at one of the online sites this may be his first book.   So, I had no preconceived ideas of how or what he might have to say.   Or how he would say it.    Richards says it straight and without too much of his own story intruding on what he has to say.   Yes, he uses examples from his own life.   It’s way easier than getting all the legal stuff you need these days to tell it any other way.   That said he also includes quotes from others as needed. And that includes the Bible.   He’s tracking pretty well as far as I can see.   His pace matches his audience.   He’s in Austin, remember.   Lots to do and not so much time to do it.   So the presentation is short and to the point. What about the material?   As I read it I found mys...

Review: The Satisfied Soul: Showing the Supremacy of God in All of Life John Piper

Review: The Satisfied Soul: Showing the Supremacy of God in All of Life John Piper Multnomah 2017 Seems like there’s been several of the more mature leaders of the Christian faith who have assembled some of their work into volumes like this one.   Not a bad thing.   For those who don’t know them already it’s a great introduction to what the author has spent his life teaching.   For those that are acquainted, these works are like paging through a scrapbook. Either way, they continue to speak.  This book draws together a wide range of meditations or teaching points.   I have sampled several throughout the book and find them to be more instruction than meditation.   The meditation happens after the reader finishes the reading.   A quick look at the table of contents gives the reader a sense of the variety of areas Piper has included.   There’s also a subject, a scripture, and a person index included for the reader’s...
