Review: The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning

Review: The Ragamuffin Gospel Brennan Manning Multnomah Books 2015 This is a 25 th anniversary issue of this Brennan Manning book.   John Blase mentions in his preface to this edition that the book has already sold nearly a million copies over its 25 year run. (ix)   What I found interesting is that with just a few exceptions this book is as current now as it was when it was written.      This is my first time reading this book.   I had read a couple Manning’s other works and decided it was time to read this one as well.   I was not disappointed in the least with it and found it to be encouraging.   It reinforced a line from one of his other books that had stuck with me for years now---God loves you and there’s nothing you do about it.   That’s probably a paraphrase but close and I cannot remember which book it’s from.   Sorry. There’s not a lot that hasn’t already been said about this book already since its 25 yea...

Review: Every Little Thing: Making a World of Difference Right Where You Are by Deidra Riggs

Review: Every Little Thing: Making a World of Difference Right Where You Are Deidra Riggs Baker Books 2015 Once in a while among the vast array of Christian living books written by and for women one stands out.   This is that one.    Riggs writes from experience and a kind of maturity I have not found in most of the others---yet anyway.   Steady solid narrative that encourages the reader with calm, sure statements that come from her deep faith.   Being who you are, where you are as defined by God not any other person, living life His way is the key.   That includes the ordinary day to day routine things.   Riggs has an excellent take on “ordinary” that I will let her share when you read this book. The nits, if you find any, are far outweighed by her content.   I recommend this book. This book was provided by the publisher in exchange for a review.

Review: Blessings for the Morning: Prayerful Encouragement to Begin Your Day by Susie Larson

Review: Blessings for the Morning: Prayerful Encouragement to Begin Your Day Susie Larson Bethany House Publishers 2014 This is an absolutely lovely book---one that I would give as a gift.   Every entry is placed on a stunning full color scene.   The selected Biblical text is accompanied by several blessings related to it.   It’s as if someone were pronouncing the blessings into your life as you read them. And I found that there is generally one that is particularly apt for the day.   A very simple idea presented beautifully.   Just a nice, gentle way to start your day off, I think. Yes, I’d would recommend this one to you if you are looking for a gift to lift someone’s spirit or even as a treat for yourself.   It is an encouragement designed for women.   Sorry, guys. Available in ebook format. I received this book from the publishers in return for a review.
